I’ve noticed that there is a bit of a misunderstanding about tea freshness, specifically black teas. I will always offer last years black tea quite a while into the current year because black tea ages really well through the first year or two of its life. After two years, most black tea will fade in flavor, but some of them will shine well past one year in age.
You may even notice that if you’re drinking black tea within 1-3 months of harvest, there can be an almost watery sensation noticeable. This is because it was freshly harvested. As it settles into its harvest year, that will fade and the nuances and complexities will come out.
So while it’s really exciting to purchase black tea fresh in the current season, last years tea is still great and occasionally even better than the fresh stuff! With that in mind, check out the stuff below! :-)
